I remember when someone told me these little oxalis are weeds, and I got all sad, I love them. I realized a while back that weeds are really only “weeds” if they are growing where you don’t want them.
Technically I’m going to have an overabundance of tomato volunteers because I had a lot of fruit split and fall to the ground last year. So, in essence, tomatoes will be a weed to me, how silly! Especially when I am currently inside diligently working to sprout a few hundred of the same plant. It’s just the fact that I’m not certain of the variety, and therefore, I’m not going to let them take over my row again this year. Now to be fair, last year I did let them go wild, and they were the “spoon” tomatoes. Which sadly, I had come to despise. They really are quite a pain to harvest. And I don’t like how tart they are. Or how small they are.

And then there are these beauties. Growing in the gravel inside the greenhouse. We had pulled an entire massive rosella tomato plant and stuck it in the greenhouse in a wheelbarrow, thinking a frost would be around to wipe it out if we didn’t do something. Many tomatoes later, there were still many that ended up on the ground.
Today I transplanted some tomatoes from the mini soil blocker blocks to 4” pots. They look so small, but I know they will grow and I will wish I had immediately put them in a larger pot.
Greenhouse #4 is SO close. It has a frame, two layers of plastic squeezed together at the edges by channel and wiggle wire, an inflator fan. The big 500 gallon propane tank got placed today to service both greenhouses and the doors got put on…yesterday? It is all a blur. The stand is built and the propane heater is in place. Now we just have to wait for one part to the heater to make it a much welcomed extra space for las plantas.
I do have the other greenhouses still. And technically I could just start planting in there. The original that is next to our house, we have decided to turn into a tropical rainforest. Hope here in a few months I can share photos of that coming to fruition. I would love that. Right now it is a total mess. I have been boiling giant pots of water to pour on the grass that grew along the edge. So far that has been working really well to make the roots “let go” so I can pull up the grass.

We ate our last jar of frozen melon purée today. It was marvelous. We didn’t actually grow the melons ourselves, but I did get them from some friends who are market growers. Definitely have a goal to have lots of melons this year.
I’m also almost completely out of garden fruit in general. I have some jams and jellies but almost nothing in the freezer.

It was so wonderful to have some plain yogurt with maple syrup and raspberries from the garden. I also found some honeyberries that I bought at the farmer’s market in whitefish. Hopefully this year my plants will produce, but I might still go check out the u -pick they have down in whitefish for them.

We also dug up some Jerusalem artichokes, and then had fart wars while we watched a movie. These sunchokes were so tasty. I sliced them in coins and then fried them in avocado oil. But my GOODNESS! Don’t eat them if you plan on going anywhere, you will be able to clear out the room with the aftermath. 🤣
Still. So delicious. Still not sure if they are worth it. They were so crisp, even before I cooked them, like a fresh out of the ground carrot.

At first you almost can’t see all the little red orach seedlings. Until you look closer….

Well cheers. I’m going to try to keep writing as things happen. I really enjoy sharing all the photos and things that go on. Especially all the hidden treasures. 🧡
